About Rob Cee

by Darnell Coles, Jr.

The myth of Rob Cee exists in every culture. Though the names are different, the story is the same – a jolly man visits homes on set occasions and brings presents that warm the heart. France has Pere Noel, Peru has Papa Noel, and the Sudan has Dikembe Mutombo. But in America, thanks to the magic of the Internet, we have Rob Cee. Unlike figures in other cultures, Rob Cee doesn’t wait once a year to bring us our gifts – he drops reviews on his faithful readers every week (or every few weeks, depending on his level of inspiration.)

Rob Cee’s music reviews first started appearing in the Valley View High School student newspaper in the early 1990’s. They (along with Rob) graduated to the student newspaper of Marywood Unversity and then the regional music store magazine “Stereo Type.” Reviews began cropping up all over North America on the walls of bus stations and bathroom stalls as Rob Cee searched for new outlets. George Michael’s arrest in a California men’s room? Yep, he was reading a Rob Cee review right before it went down.

No one is quite sure how it happened, but at some point in 2005 Rob Cee discovered the internet. The world would never be the same. His reviews began appearing on the award winning web site electriccityr.com, and in 2007 evolved into their own site, RobCeeMusic.com. Where they go from here, no one knows, but if this growth rate continues many predict their own sovereign nation by the end of the next decade.

What qualifies Rob Cee to write these reviews? What qualified Gary Cherone to become lead singer of Van Halen? No, Rob Cee has never blackmailed Eddie Van Halen, but he did grow up with a heavy crush on Valerie Bertanelli and a knack for analyzing music, whether it be an entire album, an EP, a single, or the guitar riff on “Juke Box Hero.” Unlike many other music critics, Rob Cee does not identify with any particular style of music or trends. He has built up a lifelong resistance to peer pressure and has a keen ability to judge music for what it is and to put it into the perspective of the artist’s greater body of work. With Rob Cee’s reviews you get exactly what you came for – brutal honesty, quick wit, and the truth.
